Underwear Fit and Waistband Checklist
Review underwear fit using measurement references, wearer observations and separate decisions for fabric, waistband and leg openings.
01
Define the wearer and fit reference
Record the intended wearer, sample size, size chart and reference product. Identify whether the sample is for silhouette exploration or confirmation against an agreed specification. A familiar size label such as M does not establish a measurement system across brands or markets. Use the buyer's actual reference and preserve its revision.
02
Check dimensions using one method
Mark measurement points for waist, rise, side length, leg opening and other relevant areas on the drawing. State units, relaxed or other agreed conditions and tolerances. Keep the sample results beside the targets. Do not turn a fit preference into a pass or fail result unless it corresponds to an agreed criterion.
03
Record the garment experience separately
During the buyer's fit review, note coverage, waistband position, leg-opening placement, seam contact and material feel. Describe the area and context rather than writing too tight without a location. A wearer observation can lead to a specification change, but it should remain distinguishable from a sample produced outside the existing specification.
04
Agree changes and recheck connected areas
If the waistband or rise changes, revisit the adjacent measurements and construction. If the material is substituted, ask whether fit needs another review. Assign each correction a contact, reference photo and next sample. Base-size approval does not validate every size; agree the grading and size-set review separately. The worksheet is a planning aid, not a DALI standard fit block.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using a size label as a complete fit specification.
- Combining subjective discomfort and dimensional failure in one result.
- Approving all sizes after reviewing only M.

Frequently asked
Buyer questions
01Do I need a complete chart for an initial inquiry?
No. Share the fit references and quantity estimate available, and identify the measurement work still needed.
02Who defines the final fit?
The buyer and development team should agree the specification, review method and approval contact for the program.
From preparation to development
Discuss the questions that remain open.
Use the guide to organize the information you have, then discuss your product and estimated bulk requirement with DALI. A complete worksheet or technical pack is not required for the first conversation.
