Underwear Elastic, Waistband and Trim Review
Specify underwear waistband and trim construction, dimensions, branding and sample decisions without treating width as the whole specification.
01
Identify the construction and attachment
State whether the elastic is exposed, enclosed or used in another buyer-defined arrangement. Mark the waist and leg positions separately. Record the component reference, material information, finish and proposed attachment. A photograph communicates appearance but does not establish elastic behavior, seam construction or the finished garment dimension. DALI's elastic portfolio includes woven and knitted references. Ask which construction is proposed for your garment and record that component separately from the main fabric; a similar surface pattern does not establish that two waistbands have the same structure.
- Component: supplier reference, construction and sample version.
- Placement: waist or leg, exposed or enclosed, join and attachment.
- Artwork: repeat, direction and position on the assembled garment.
02
Connect dimensions and branding
Record width, finished length or other relevant dimensions using the agreed method. Show the logo orientation, repeat layout, joining location and available artwork area. Distinguish relaxed dimensions from any agreed extended condition. If artwork changes, check whether the component development or construction needs another sample; do not treat branding as a separate decorative decision with no technical effect.
03
Separate feel from measured performance
Compare handfeel and contact-point observations against an identified reference. If stretch or recovery is a requirement, agree how it will be evaluated and what result is acceptable. Do not define a universal extension ratio or force from a photograph. Record the component and garment versions involved, since an elastic can behave differently once attached to the intended fabric.
04
Approve the trim on the assembled sample
Check seam finish, joining, logo alignment and the relationship with garment rise and fit. Identify temporary trims explicitly. Keep material, artwork and fit approvals separate, and record any correction in the specification revision. The worksheet gives a preparation structure; values and acceptance criteria must be agreed for the actual product before bulk approval.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Describing the waistband only by width.
- Measuring relaxed and stretched elastic without distinguishing them.
- Approving a logo swatch as approval of the finished waistband.
Technical and regulatory references
Check the scope for your product and destination. These references do not establish certification, approval or test results for a DALI product or factory.

Frequently asked
Buyer questions
01Can I start with waistband photos?
Yes. Add the feature you want to retain, then develop component dimensions, material and attachment details with the team.
02Should waist and leg elastic use the same specification?
Do not assume so. Identify their separate locations, construction and required behavior.
From preparation to development
Discuss the questions that remain open.
Use the guide to organize the information you have, then discuss your product and estimated bulk requirement with DALI. A complete worksheet or technical pack is not required for the first conversation.
