Sock Artwork and Yarn Brief
Connect sock artwork locations, physical dimensions, color references and yarn choices before judging the knitted sample.
01
Describe the sock independently of the artwork
Name the intended wearer, length, buyer size reference and use. Provide front, back or side views that distinguish the cuff, leg, heel, foot and toe. State which areas carry a logo or pattern and which remain plain. The artwork should communicate a proposed product, not require the factory to infer the sock construction from a promotional mockup.
02
Make placement and color references unambiguous
Record a logo's dimensions and its relationship to a named garment point. State whether left and right socks are identical, mirrored or deliberately different. Use the buyer-approved physical color reference and record its system or swatch code. Screen colors and photographic lighting should not be treated as an agreed production shade.
03
Discuss knitting feasibility before approving a graphic
Small text, closely spaced shapes and many color changes may need adaptation for the selected sock construction. Send the original artwork and identify which elements are essential. Ask the development team to explain any proposed simplification on a marked version. Record the brand's approval of any artwork adaptation against the marked revision.
04
Review yarn and pattern together
List the proposed composition, yarn references and sample objective separately from the graphic. Compare the developed pattern at the intended size and in the worn condition where relevant. The worksheet below captures a hypothetical logo brief and review questions. It is not a knitting program, material guarantee or promise that every design can be produced without changes.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sending a mockup without physical artwork dimensions.
- Assuming a print graphic will knit identically.
- Approving logo placement only on an unworn sock.

Frequently asked
Buyer questions
01Which artwork file should I send?
Send the original editable artwork where available, plus a marked drawing showing dimensions and placement. Agree any conversion requirements with the team.
02Can the knitted design differ from the graphic?
Feasibility may require adaptation. Essential branding and any proposed changes should be reviewed and approved before production.
From preparation to development
Discuss the questions that remain open.
Use the guide to organize the information you have, then discuss your product and estimated bulk requirement with DALI. A complete worksheet or technical pack is not required for the first conversation.
