Garment Tech Pack Checklist

Prepare a version-controlled tech pack covering drawings, materials, measurements, construction, artwork and unresolved decisions.

01

Separate an inquiry brief from a production tech pack

A reference photo can start a discussion, but it leaves important choices open. Before requesting a sample, name the style, intended wearer, sample size, target market and purpose of the sample. For production, connect every agreed detail to one controlled revision. Use the controlled drawing and measurement revision as the manufacturing reference.

  • Cover: style code, season, revision, date and approval contact.
  • Reference: front, back and detail views, with permission to use supplied artwork.

02

Check the specification by component

Walk through the garment from the main fabric to the smallest attachment. Use a material reference for each component, then connect it to a numbered location on the drawing. Keep sample substitutions visible. If a temporary trim is used, record what must replace it before production rather than approving the whole garment without qualifications.

  • Materials: composition, construction, weight where relevant, color reference and supplier code if nominated.
  • Dimensions: measurement point, method, size values, unit and agreed tolerance.
  • Construction: seams, finishing, elastic attachment, closures and label positions.

03

Resolve conflicting files before sampling

Imagine a brief with a 30 mm waistband in the drawing and a 35 mm item in the material list. Record the discrepancy, identify the decision contact and issue a corrected revision before sample development. A change to the waistband can also affect the attachment method, finished rise and artwork area; check those connected details together.

04

Release a package that can be traced

Use a filename such as UW01_R03_2026-10-08 and issue one release manifest listing the approved revision of every attachment. The tech-pack release may be R03 while an unchanged artwork file remains R02; the manifest makes that relationship explicit. Preserve superseded versions and their approval history. The worksheet below is a tech pack review checklist. It does not replace the complete tech pack, technical drawings or patterns. Add your specifications and agree any missing details with DALI.

  • Before release: reconcile drawing, material list, measurements and quantity sheet against the release manifest.
  • After review: record open points, the agreed sample objective and who can approve changes.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using several files called final without a revision index.
  • Treating the sample size as the complete size range.
  • Approving a temporary material as if it were the bulk material.

Project worksheet

Start with the Project brief, then complete the relevant product details. Email the workbook and available references to [email protected]. You can leave undecided items blank.

Use the completed worksheet alongside the product drawings, approved specification and agreed order requirements.

Frequently asked

Buyer questions

01Must every detail be complete before the first inquiry?

No. Share the concept, market and estimated volume first. Identify what is unknown so the sample and specification work can be scoped.

02Does this download contain a complete tech pack?

No. It is a document-control worksheet. Your drawings, material specifications, measurements and agreed construction instructions remain separate attachments.

From preparation to development

Discuss the questions that remain open.

Use the guide to organize the information you have, then discuss your product and estimated bulk requirement with DALI. A complete worksheet or technical pack is not required for the first conversation.
